Students aged between 11 and 14 from various LAHC member schools have collaborated with oral historian and radio broadcaster Alan Dein to develop their own podcast ideas. This is part of the LAHC's inaugural student podcast challenge; this involved students imagining alternative realities, exploring alternative ways of life, and alternative ways of telling stories, sharing information, and connecting with the world around them.
Each participating school was allowed to enter three teams with a maximum of five participants per team, with submissions in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Participating schools were: Victoria School (Mexico), Colegio Colombo Británica (Colombia), Redland (Chile), San Silvestre (Peru), St. Nicholas (Brazil) and St. Francis College (Brazil).
In November, students took part in a workshop with Alan Dein, who has worked for the BBC as well as The British Library, the Museum of London, and has received multiple radio awards worldwide. They had a subsequent workshop with Michelle Ong, the ICT coordinator and IB Chinese/Mandarin teacher at St. Francis College with over 15 years experience in IB education and educational technology.
