I trust that you are all well and that you are looking forward to the annual conference. I am writing with some updates on the conference and some reminders regarding registration and hotel reservations.
The final programme is attached in pdf format. Please note the following:
The first event is the welcome cocktail at the Irish Pub at 7:00 pm on Tuesday evening (April 17th). Following the success of last year’s welcome cocktail, I expect this to be a great start to the conference so please try to arrange your travel to arrive in time for this.
The final event is the dinner on Friday evening (April 20th) so please arrange your return travel for Saturday at the earliest.
The AGM will be at 8:00 am (!) on the morning of Wednesday, April 18th. It will be in the conference hotel and breakfast will be served during the meeting. Please remember that attendance at the AGM is a condition of membership. If the Head of the school is not in attendance they must nominate a representative from the school to attend in their place.
All three LAHC schools in Bogota (Colegio Gran Bretaña, Colegio Anglo Colombiano and The English School) have expressed their willingness to receive visitors on the Monday and Tuesday prior to the conference. I will be sending details of how to arrange these visits shortly but do think about extending your trip to include this valuable opportunity.
There will be a wide choice of breakout sessions and workshops. Descriptions of these sessions will be published soon and you will be asked to make your choices prior to the conference in order to plan the distribution of spaces.
There will also be a separate session for exhibitor workshops. These will be 30 minute sessions at the end of the first day. Again, descriptions will be available soon and we hope that you will support our exhibitors by going along.
Don’t forget to book your hotel room before the hotel fills up. Details of how to book are attached and are also available on the website (Conference -> Letters). You will need to send a credit card number to guarantee payment in order for the reservation to be confirmed. If you would like alternative options I can provide you with suggestions.
If you or your additional delegates have not yet registered, please do so as soon as possible. Details are attached and are also available on the website (Conference -> Registration).
WEBSITE AND WEBAPP
Don’t forget to check the website for information about the conference. Right now you can find out about the speakers and very soon there will be more general information about Bogota and about the programme. We will also be launching a webapp very soon so that you can access everything from your phone and customise your own personal conference timetable.
As you know, we will have students joining us for several of the conference sessions and, in line with best international safeguarding practices, we are asking all conference delegates to provide us with a police check, since they will be in direct contact with students. We are aware that this will come as a surprise to many of you and that some will consider this unnecessary for an organisation like ours. Nevertheless, as an association we have stated our commitment to implementing safeguarding practices in all of our schools and in theory, all members of staff in all of our schools should already have been checked in order to work with children. We are aware that in practice this is not the case and that it could be problematic for some people to comply with this request at relatively short notice, so we are not making this an obligatory condition of attendance, but we would like everyone to do their best to obtain the appropriate documentation as a step towards our goal of bringing LAHC into line with the best international practices.
I look forward to seeing all of you in Bogota.
